Name: Sara Duncan; Chicago, IL
Previous education: B.S. in Biology and Secondary Education. I also spent 7 years working in an (A)BSL-3 micro and molecular biology lab developing infectious disease models as well as testing vaccines and antibiotics with an emphasis on biodefense.
Why I joined SORT: With the desire to continue working with highly pathogenic diseases and/or biodefense efforts, I joined SORT to develop myself personally and professionally within the context of outbreak and emergency response.
Fun fact about me: I am vaccinated against Anthrax!

Previous education: Biology with a Chemistry Minor from Appalachian State University
Why I joined SORT: Following my interest in investigatory epidemiology and emergency preparedness, I joined SORT to gain hands-on experience and new skill sets to give me the tools I needed to get the most out of my public health education and pursue my future career.
Fun fact about me: I was born in Tennessee, raised in Liverpool, England, and then moved back to Tennessee, creating a very interesting accident if nothing else.

Why I joined SORT: To meet and collaborate with other students who were interested in emergency response and preparedness.
Fun fact about me: I met the University of Michigan football head coach, Jim Harbaugh, in a cemetery.

Why I joined SORT: To develop my skills in outbreak response and network with peers and professionals who have similar interests

Why I joined SORT: I joined SORT to learn more about outbreak response and be prepared to work in an Emergency Operations Center.

Why I joined SORT: I joined SORT to learn more about surveillance and outbreak response and to interact with professionals who work in these areas.

Why I joined SORT: I joined SORT to get more experience in outbreak response and to work helping the different organizations in the area during outbreaks.
Fun fact about me: I’ve been to 15 different countries but have yet to see the Statue of Liberty.

Previous education: BA in Latin American Studies and Spanish from Tulane University
Why I joined SORT: SORT gives students the opportunity to learn more about public health outbreaks and response from experts in the field, participate in hands-on activities, and become involved with the surrounding community–I wanted to be a part of it!
Fun fact about me: I climbed a volcano in the Andes!
