Outbreak Response in the UAE

Kyu, SORT member and Global Epidemiology student at Rollins, is hanging out at 5 star hotels between fighting antimicrobial resistance surveillance and outbreak detection using statistical software in Abu Dhabi this summer. No big deal.

The biggest challenge he has faced so far is missing data, but to relieve the stress he went on a desert safari chalk full of riding on sand dunes in a land cruiser and petting a live falcon.

Besides new techniques in statistical software and more knowledge on outbreak detection and response, when asked what he is most excited to bring back to Rollins in the fall he replied “Awesome Arabic phrases like ‘as salaam alaikum’, ‘shukran,’ ‘inshallah,’ and ‘humdullah’!

We miss you Kyu can’t wait to learn more Arabic!
